Monument To The Soldiers Of The Lubań Garrison Killed In The World War I

The monument you are standing in front of was unveiled on 20 September 1925 on the initiative of the Veterans' Association of the 2nd Battalion of the 19th von Courbiere Infantry Regiment (2nd Poznan Regiment). It was mainly Poles from the Greater Poland area who served in the regiment, which is why it was called the "Polish Regiment" or the "Kaczmark Regiment" - after the most popular surname in the area. The battalion was transferred to Luban in 1848 due to the outbreak of the Great Polish Uprising and remained in the local barracks until 1914. After the outbreak of the First World War, it was sent to the Western Front, where it fought mainly in France.

The monument commemorates the losses suffered by the unit during the fighting: 23 officers, 81 non-commissioned officers and 491 privates.

After the Second World War, the monument was blown up and its fragments scattered around the park. In 2018, the monument was restored by the Upper Lusatia Association.
