Invest in Lubań

You are standing in front of the entrance to the underground corridors. In 1943 the construction of air-raid shelters for civilians began in Luban, the largest of which was to be built just below Kamienna Góra. In 1945 the entrances to the unfinished shelter were blown up, hiding its secrets for many years.

In 2011, a local historian found a plan of the tunnel on tracing paper in the State Archives in Luban. In order to confirm the existence of the underground, drilling and excavation was carried out in the following years, which revealed a 35-metre blind tunnel in which rails and excavation wagons were found.

Thanks to the support of the local government, sponsors and private individuals, mining work began, which included the excavation of an open pit and a small access tunnel through the collapsed ceiling to reach the main part of the site. This was successfully completed in September 2021.

In the first sections, the tunnels, which are about 2m high and wide, are timber-framed; deeper down, the tunnels dimensions reach about 3m by 3m. Inside, the tracks for the mine cars used to transport the excavated material and the cars themselves are partly preserved. Remains of electrical cables show that the complex was illuminated. Inside, the humidity is 89%, the temperature is 11 degrees Celsius and the oxygen level is 17.4%.
