Stone Mountain

Kamienna Góra is part of the Lubań volcanic belt. Research has shown that lava flows solidified here about 27 million years ago. Since the 13th century, rock material - basalt blocks, also known as slices - has been quarried on the hill. The oldest buildings in Lubań are made of basalt: the defensive walls, the Bratska Tower or the Salt House. On the other hand, sheep and cattle grazed on the meadows of the upper part of the hill, and until the 14th century, wood was supplied for the expansion of the town. The latter led to deforestation and the exposure of the rocky top of the hill.
